The Ministry of Defense has cautioned all armed forces members against joining the Russian or Ukrainian army through illegal means. This warning comes in light of recent reports revealing that some members of the country's security forces have joined the Russian army without official authorization, leading to concerns and discussions.
Al Jazeera's news service highlighted the deaths of two Sri Lankan army members who had joined the Russian army, sparking further debate. However, the Ministry of Defense clarified that it has not received official confirmation, through embassies or other channels, regarding these reported deaths.
The Ministry emphasized that there is no formal agreement between the Sri Lankan Army and the Russian Army for Sri Lankan military personnel to serve in Russia. Such unauthorized actions not only tarnish the country's reputation but also pose risks to individuals involved.
In response, the Ministry of Defense has instructed all members of the Sri Lankan military not to engage in any activities that involve joining the Russian army.
Furthermore, it was previously reported in December last year that three former Sri Lankan military personnel, including a captain, had passed away while serving in the Ukrainian army."
