The Foreign Minister of Thailand, HE Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, has agreed to collaborate with Sri Lanka on the early implementation of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLSFTA) and reciprocal visa-free arrangements.
Additionally, both countries are working together to facilitate the repatriation of Sri Lankans currently in the Myawaddy area of Myanmar.
In a recent development aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, Sri Lanka and Thailand have pledged mutual cooperation on several fronts, including trade and repatriation efforts.
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs M U M Ali Sabry, discussions between Sri Lanka and Thailand have yielded positive outcomes. Minister Sabry revealed that he had a productive phone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Thailand, HE Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, during which they discussed various matters of mutual interest.
Among the key topics discussed was the early implementation of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLSFTA) and the establishment of reciprocal visa-free arrangements between the two countries. Minister Sabry expressed Sri Lanka's commitment to fostering closer economic ties with Thailand, and HE Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara affirmed Thailand's willingness to collaborate on these initiatives.
In addition to trade-related matters, both ministers addressed the urgent issue of repatriating Sri Lankans stranded in the Myawaddy area of Myanmar.
Minister Sabry conveyed Sri Lanka's request for assistance in facilitating the safe return of rescued Sri Lankans, currently under Myanmar government protection. HE Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, who also serves as the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, assured cooperation in facilitating the repatriation process via Thailand.
Furthermore, the two ministers agreed to explore opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy and fisheries sectors, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and promote sustainable development in both countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement affirming the commitment of Sri Lanka and Thailand to enhance collaboration in various fields for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
