SriLankan Airlines, a state-run carrier, has announced a significant expansion in its flight services from Colombo to Seoul, with plans to increase frequency from twice weekly to seven days a week.
This development comes as part of a strategic code-share agreement with Korean Air, facilitating smoother travel between the two cities via a connection in Singapore.
Effective from March 15, 2024, the code-share agreement marks a pivotal step in enhancing connectivity and convenience for travelers between Sri Lanka and South Korea. Richard Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, expressed optimism about the growing passenger demand, stating, “The passenger traffic between the two cities continues to exceed our expectations.”
Under the partnership, SriLankan Airlines will have the opportunity to codeshare on flights operated by Korean Air between Singapore and Seoul Incheon. Similarly, Korean Air will codeshare on SriLankan Airlines' flights connecting Colombo to Seoul Incheon, Singapore, Chennai in India, and Male in the Maldives.
This collaboration not only broadens the route options for passengers but also strengthens the airlines' respective networks. SriLankan Airlines gains access to Korean Air's extensive far eastern network, while Korean Air will tap into SriLankan Airlines' well-established routes across the Indian subcontinent.
The code-share agreement between SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air promises to foster greater connectivity and facilitate seamless travel experiences for passengers traveling between Sri Lanka, South Korea, and beyond.
