President Ranil Wickremesinghe affirmed his intention to present International Monetary Fund (IMF) technical assistance reports to Parliament in the near future.
This decision comes in response to a request made by Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Member of Parliament, M.A. Sumanthiran, during discussions held on Tuesday regarding the IMF assistance program.
During the meeting with TNA MPs, President Wickremesinghe acknowledged MP Sumanthiran's concern regarding the accessibility of the IMF technical assistance reports. "I committed to releasing these reports to the TNA and Parliament," stated the President, emphasizing the government's commitment to following a structured roadmap for economic stability.
Furthermore, President Wickremesinghe extended invitations to party leaders to engage in discussions on the IMF proposals, highlighting his administration's dedication to open dialogue and shared commitment. The meeting with TNA Leader and Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran and other stakeholders focused on the progress of negotiations with creditors, with an optimistic outlook on concluding discussions by June of the current year.
Expressing a desire for bipartisan cooperation, President Wickremesinghe invited Sumanthiran and other opposition members to directly engage with the IMF to gain a comprehensive understanding of the government's proposals.
