In a recent announcement, cement manufacturers have revealed a sudden spike in the maximum retail price of a 50-kg bag of cement, citing the immediate imposition of a value-added tax (VAT) on January 1 as the primary reason behind the hike.

Effective immediately, consumers will now have to pay Rs. 2,450 for a 50-kg bag of cement, reflecting a substantial increase of Rs. 150.

This development has stirred discussions within the construction and real estate sectors, as stakeholders grapple with the implications of this unexpected price adjustment.
