The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has released a report indicating a significant uptick of 23.2% in the country's official reserve assets between November 2023 and December 2023.

According to the report, Sri Lanka's official reserve assets witnessed a substantial increase, climbing from USD 3.57 billion in November 2023 to USD 4.4 billion by the end of December 2023. This notable surge is attributed to various factors contributing to the nation's economic stability.

A noteworthy inclusion in the reported reserve assets is a swap facility from the People's Bank of China, amounting to approximately USD 1.4 billion. However, it is important to note that this portion of the reserves comes with specific conditionalities on its usability, as highlighted by the CBSL.

The increase in official reserve assets is indicative of efforts to strengthen the country's economic position and enhance financial resilience. The CBSL's report underscores the significance of international collaborations, such as the swap facility with China, in contributing to the bolstering of Sri Lanka's financial standing.

As the nation continues to navigate economic challenges, the surge in official reserve assets is seen as a positive development, potentially providing a buffer against external shocks and supporting overall economic stability.
