To alleviate the shortage of raw materials crucial for poultry feed production, the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation is set to import 15,000 metric tons of maize, according to a recent cabinet statement.

The scarcity of maize in the open market has resulted in a shortfall of animal feed, consequently contributing to a surge in meat and egg prices.

In response to the situation, the Department of Animal Production and Health has issued the necessary license to facilitate the temporary import of 15,000 metric tons of maize from registered foreign suppliers. This move aims to stabilize the poultry industry and ensure an adequate supply of feed.
