In November, Sri Lanka experienced a 3.2% decline in tea production compared to the previous year, with output totaling 19.58 million kilograms, according to industry data.
However, the overall tea production for the first 11 months of the year showed an increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
The preceding month, October, witnessed a rise in tea production attributed to increased fertilizer application and favorable rainfall conditions. Despite the recent dip, cumulative tea production from January to November exhibited a 1.6% growth, reaching 232.13 million kilograms, as per industry reports for 2023.
Breaking down the data, high-grown tea production demonstrated a positive trend, marking a 2.37% increase, while mid-grown tea production surged by 6.44%. In contrast, low-grown tea production exhibited a slight downturn, experiencing a negative trend of 0.07% during the same period.
