In a noteworthy achievement, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) has successfully secured a total of USD 1.8 billion in investments as of November 23, according to State Minister of Investment Promotion, Dilum Amunugama.
Breaking down the impressive figure, the BOI disclosed that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects, valued at USD 1.5 billion, and local investments amounting to USD 258 million, have been signed and approved up to the mentioned date.
Highlighting a remarkable surge in registered and approved FDI projects, the BOI reported a substantial 122% increase in 2023, soaring from USD 695 million to an impressive USD 1.547 billion. This unprecedented growth has been primarily attributed to the substantial investments flowing into the energy sector.
The BOI's statement revealed key contributors to this surge, citing major players such as Adani Corporation, Sinopec, RM Parks in collaboration with Shell, along with increased investments in diverse sectors including ITC, BPO, Tourism, and Manufacturing.
Countries making substantial investments in Sri Lanka during 2023 were listed as China, India, the United States, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, France, Korea, Germany, and Singapore. The BOI's success underscores the nation's attractiveness to a diverse range of international investors, marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka's economic development.
