In a statement, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) parliamentarian said it was not the role of the President to comment on or anticipate the outcomes of investigations and legal processes, stressing that such matters should be handled independently by the relevant institutions.
Rajapaksa stated that he and his party are prepared to face any investigation or legal action, expressing confidence in the country’s judicial system and the rule of law.
He further noted that many families across the country are struggling with increasing living expenses and rising prices, and said the government should give greater attention to easing the economic burden on the public.
The SLPP MP also alleged that the administration, which came to power promising transparency and good governance, is now facing allegations of corruption. He questioned whether appropriate action was being taken regarding accusations involving members of the government and called for equal accountability in all cases.
Rajapaksa urged the government to concentrate on resolving economic challenges and addressing public concerns rather than focusing on ongoing legal and investigative matters.
