The Court of Appeal today (08) postponed further consideration of a petition filed by former State Intelligence Service officer Colonel Kelum Maddumage, who is seeking legal protection against arrest over investigations related to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The case was taken up before a bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando.

During the proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath, appearing for the Attorney General, raised preliminary objections and argued that the petition was not maintainable before the court.

Submissions supporting the Attorney General’s position were also made by President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma, who has been named as a respondent in the case.

After considering the arguments presented, the court ordered that the matter be recalled on June 22, allowing counsel for the petitioner an opportunity to respond to the preliminary objections.

Colonel Maddumage has sought a court order preventing his arrest in connection with ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
