The latest figures indicate a 9.6 percent increase compared to the 132,919 arrivals recorded in May 2025, reflecting continued growth in the tourism industry.
India remained Sri Lanka’s largest source market, accounting for 60,342 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 9,248 arrivals, China with 9,156, Germany with 6,734, and Australia with 6,414.
Commenting on the achievement, Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath described the milestone as a significant moment for the country’s tourism sector, highlighting the strong recovery from the 1,497 arrivals recorded in May 2021.
He attributed the growth to improved stability, enhanced security, and policy measures aimed at strengthening the tourism industry, while expressing appreciation to travelers who selected Sri Lanka as their destination.
