According to the circular, the disease mainly affects children and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Health authorities noted that the first cases were detected in Deniyaya in the Matara District during April, while infections have since been identified in the districts of Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and Badulla.
The Ministry stated that epidemiological and environmental investigations have revealed both cluster outbreaks and isolated cases, with a considerable number of infections reported among schoolchildren.
In response, the circular has been issued to raise awareness among schools and implement necessary preventive measures to limit the further spread of the virus.
