Discussion held between Minister Jayatissa and the Ambassador of Cuba to Sri Lanka

A discussion between Minister of Health and Mass Media and the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Sri Lanka, Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, was held today (29) at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.

During the meeting, attention was focused on the long-standing relations between Sri Lanka and Cuba and the opportunities available to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Recalling the close friendship and longstanding ties shared by Sri Lanka and Cuba, discussions highlighted the importance of enhancing relations and expanding cooperation in several key sectors. The Minister also briefed the Ambassador on the current progress achieved in Sri Lanka’s health sector as well as the planned programmes aimed at overcoming future challenges.

Speaking during the discussion, Ambassador Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra elaborated on several areas of potential collaboration, including mosquito control projects implemented in Sri Lanka with Cuban assistance, the sharing of Cuban expertise in dengue eradication, and cooperation in pharmaceutical and vaccine production.

The Ambassador also discussed opportunities related to medical education for Sri Lankan students in Cuba, including scholarship programmes and new approaches to academic cooperation.

Furthermore, Ambassador Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra stated that Cuba remains committed to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Sri Lanka in key sectors such as healthcare, sports, agriculture, and climate change.
