Sri Lanka has officially secured a place in the Guinness World Records by creating the world’s longest sensory board, unveiled at Merak 2026, marking a significant milestone in inclusive design and community collaboration.

The 60-metre installation was led by The Tree House International and Merak 2026, bringing together a wide network of partners from Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The project featured tactile design elements made from recycled ocean plastic, repurposed materials, zips, sequins, and a range of fidget components, offering a rich sensory experience for users.

Organisers said the initiative was developed as a collaborative movement to raise awareness on autism, promote inclusion, and encourage sustainability and empathy within society. The project united artists, schools, universities, sponsors, and organisations including Rainbow Kids in a shared effort to strengthen understanding of neurodiversity.

The achievement has placed Sri Lanka in the Guinness World Records, highlighting the country’s growing engagement in socially driven creative projects that combine innovation, environmental responsibility, and community impact.
