Landslide warning issued for several districts in Sri Lanka

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a landslide early warning notice for several districts across Sri Lanka, effective from 4:00 p.m. today (28) until 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (29).

Level 1 Landslide Warning Issued For:

Matugama in the Kalutara District

Dehiowita, Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella, Yatiyantota, and Bulathkohupitiya in the Kegalle District

Ambagamuwa in the Nuwara Eliya District

Pelmadulla, Kiriella, Elapatha, Kalawana, and Nivithigala in the Ratnapura District

Level 2 Landslide Warning Issued For:

Bulathsinhala in the Kalutara District

Ratnapura, Ayagama, Kuruwita, and Eheliyagoda in the Ratnapura District

The NBRO urged residents living in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant, especially during heavy rainfall, and to follow instructions issued by local authorities and disaster management officials. People are advised to be alert for signs of landslides such as cracks in walls and soil, sudden water seepage, leaning trees, and unusual sounds from the ground.
