Police have seized communication equipment worth approximately Rs. 10 million during a raid on an illegally operated television transmission centre in Mount Lavinia, officials said.

The operation was carried out yesterday (19) by officers of the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau together with officials from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

The raid was conducted at a building on Attidiya Road in the Mount Lavinia Police Division after investigators received information that an unauthorised television transmission centre was being operated from the premises.

Police said the raid was carried out under a search warrant obtained from the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

A 55-year-old Maldivian national residing in the Kalubowila area was arrested in connection with the operation. Investigators allege that the suspect had been operating the transmission centre using communication equipment illegally imported into the country.

The suspect was handed over to the Mount Lavinia Police Station, while further investigations are underway.
