Members of the Election Commission have been summoned to appear before the Parliamentary Special Committee tasked with presenting recommendations on the conduct of the Provincial Council elections.

The Election Commission confirmed that it has been notified to appear before the committee tomorrow.

The Special Committee, which was appointed to study and report on the electoral system to be used for the Provincial Council elections, has already convened several meetings under the chairmanship of Minister Vijitha Herath.

The committee is responsible for submitting proposals and recommendations regarding the appropriate electoral framework for the long-delayed Provincial Council polls.

Earlier, officials from the Attorney General’s Department were also summoned before the committee. During that meeting, the committee instructed the department to submit a report outlining the legal obstacles that may affect the holding of the Provincial Council elections.

The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to address legal and procedural issues surrounding the conduct of the elections.
