The MP stated that his remarks were misunderstood by the media due to a misinterpretation of the Tamil language used during his speech.
Responding to criticism, Ramanathan explained that the statement was made sarcastically in reference to the alleged seven agreements signed between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He stressed that he was not advocating for the division of Sri Lanka and reaffirmed his loyalty to the country.
“I will not sell my country. We are people who fought for this country. Sri Lanka is my country,” Ramanathan stated.
He further said that his comments were intended as criticism of the agreements signed with India, adding that if the government continued to “give everything to Modi,” those supporting such agreements should “go to Modi,” while others could “go to Tamil Nadu.”
