A high-level meeting was held between Andrew Patrick, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Anura Karunathilaka, Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation, and Energy, to explore opportunities for collaboration in key infrastructure sectors.

During the discussion, the British High Commissioner expressed willingness to support the development of ports and airports in Sri Lanka through both government-level and private sector partnerships. He noted that foreign investment and technical expertise could be extended to areas such as advanced airport technologies and airspace management systems.

Minister Karunathilaka highlighted that several port terminals in Sri Lanka are already being operated under private sector partnerships. He added that the Hambantota Port is currently managed under a separate operational model, and that the government is seeking private investors for future terminal developments.

The High Commissioner described the Port of Colombo as a globally competitive facility, noting that its 15-year development plan is highly promising. He also commended the country’s long-term approach to airport development.

In addition, he pointed out that while the Port of Colombo functions as a major commercial hub, it also has potential to contribute to the tourism sector.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Karunathilaka reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s readiness to strengthen partnerships with international investors, including those from Europe, with the aim of boosting economic growth and expanding global cooperation.
