The complaint was filed by Dr. Chamal Sanjeeva, President of the Medical and Civil Rights Professional Association of Doctors (MCPA). The move follows intense social media scrutiny regarding the Minister’s asset declaration for the years 2024 and 2025, which was reportedly submitted on December 26 last year.
According to the complainant, Minister Lalkantha’s declaration lists immovable properties valued at over Rs. 67 million (6.7 Crores). Dr. Sanjeeva pointed out a significant discrepancy between these current holdings and the Minister’s past public statements, noting that just a few years ago, Lalkantha had claimed he was struggling even to meet his basic personal expenses.
Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, Dr. Chamal Sanjeeva questioned the source of such substantial wealth accumulation within a relatively short period. He urged the Bribery Commission to conduct a transparent and wide-ranging investigation into the contradictions between the Minister’s previous financial status and the assets disclosed in his most recent official declaration.
The controversy adds to a growing public discourse regarding the financial transparency of high-ranking officials, with the MCPA calling for the Commission to verify if the reported assets align with the Minister's legal income.
