The incident occurred on April 16 when a group of 15 people went to bathe in the river and 10 of them were suddenly swept away by strong currents.
Earlier, two bodies were recovered shortly after the incident, while two others were admitted to hospital for treatment. With the latest search operations, four additional bodies have now been found, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to six.
Police stated that search and rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the remaining two missing persons.
The incident took place in the area of Deduru Oya, within the Kobeigane region near Nikaweratiya. Authorities continue to warn the public about the dangers of bathing in swollen waterways, particularly during periods of strong currents.
