The WCA announced several updates to its advisory board, with Athapaththu joining a group of leading international cricketers including Pat Cummins, Jason Holder, Heather Knight, Aiden Markram, Scott Edwards and Laura Wolvaardt.
She also joins newly appointed members Rashid Khan, Wayne Madsen, Daryl Mitchell and Maddy Green, replacing retiring members Tim Southee and Sophie Devine.
Reacting to her appointment, Athapaththu said she was honoured to be selected to the global advisory body, describing it as a proud moment for herself, Sri Lanka, and the wider Asian cricketing community.
She expressed her intention to contribute her experience as an international cricketer to strengthen the voice of players worldwide, with a particular focus on ensuring greater representation for players from Asia in key decision-making processes.
Athapaththu also pledged to work closely with fellow board members to support the growth of cricket, improve player welfare, and contribute positively to the global cricket ecosystem.
The WCA stated that the updated Player Advisory Board aims to reinforce the collective voice of players at a pivotal time for global cricket, ensuring that players play a central role in shaping the future and long-term success of the sport.
