Iran-US talks begin in Pakistan

US President Donald Trump said yesterday the Strait of Hormuz will reopen soon, with or without Iran’s cooperation, telling reporters that the US negotiators in Pakistan today are primarily focused on ensuring that Tehran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon. Since the beginning of the US-Israeli war with Iran, Tehran effectively closed the vital waterway to all vessels. Before the conflict began, one-fifth of the world’s oil used to pass through the strait.The discussions come amid a fragile ceasefire, with both sides yet to confirm the scope of the negotiations.
