The strike launched by the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) is continuing for the second consecutive day today.

Minister of Health, Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that he is ready to hold discussions with the doctors if they call off the strike and return to work.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal has announced that its decision on whether to grant leave to hear petitions challenging the post-intern medical appointments process will be delivered on May 8. These petitions were filed by two doctors who recently completed their internship training.

The striking doctors claim that the Ministry of Health has violated agreements reached with them regarding the appointment of post-intern medical officers.

The strike is currently in effect at several hospitals, including Horana Base Hospital. However, reports indicate that operations at many hospitals continue as normal.

Patients have been facing significant difficulties due to the ongoing strike.

The Association of Medical Specialists has announced that it will not support this strike.

The GMOA stated that further action regarding the strike will be decided following an emergency central committee meeting.

Reiterating his stance, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa emphasized that the government remains open to dialogue, provided the striking doctors resume their duties.
