The launch event was held yesterday (March 31) at the Ministry auditorium under the patronage of Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara.
According to the Minister, the new MIS has been designed to streamline and professionalize the appointment process for key judicial-related roles. These include Justices of the Peace, Commissioners for Oaths, Inquirers into Sudden Deaths, unofficial magistrates, and sworn translators. The system introduces structured procedures and improved selection criteria, which are expected to enhance transparency, reliability, and reduce administrative delays and irregularities.
The revamped official website also introduces a “Citizen Services Information Portal,” providing user-friendly access to essential judicial services. Through this portal, the public can easily obtain information related to legal aid, mediation, arbitration, debt conciliation, and services for the protection of victims and witnesses. Authorities say this will improve public awareness and make it easier for citizens to access legal support.
The MIS was developed under the “Support to Justice” (JURE) project, implemented with financial assistance from the European Union. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and UNICEF Sri Lanka.
Several distinguished officials attended the event, including Ministry Secretary President’s Counsel Ayesha Jinasena, EU Deputy Head of Delegation Edoardo Spacca, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Marina Ten, and Additional Secretary (Reforms) Kishanthi Meegahapola, along with other senior representatives.
Officials emphasized that these digital advancements mark a significant step toward modernizing Sri Lanka’s justice system and improving public access to legal services.
