Sri Lanka's tourism industry continues to show signs of steady recovery and growth, with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) reporting 80,421 tourist arrivals in the first 18 days of May 2025 alone.

According to the latest data released by the SLTDA, the total number of international visitors to the island nation this year has reached 977,305 as of May 18. This marks a significant milestone for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, which is regaining momentum after recent global travel disruptions.

India continues to lead as the top source market for Sri Lankan tourism, contributing 184,095 visitors so far this year. Russia holds the second spot with 109,675 tourist arrivals, while the United Kingdom ranks third with 92,539 visitors.

Germany and France have also emerged as key European markets for Sri Lanka, recording 67,019 and 55,220 tourist arrivals respectively in the year to date.

Tourism authorities remain optimistic about meeting their annual targets, emphasizing ongoing promotional campaigns, enhanced connectivity, and the island's diverse offerings ranging from pristine beaches to rich cultural heritage as key drivers of growth.

Sri Lanka aims to attract over 2 million tourists in 2025, positioning tourism as a vital contributor to economic recovery and development.
