Sri Lanka welcomes over 950,000 tourists in 2025

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry continues its strong recovery in 2025, with over 950,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far this year, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
In the first 13 days of May alone, 59,755 tourists visited the island nation, with India emerging as the top source market for inbound travelers. The growth underscores renewed global confidence in Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination.
Tourism officials and industry experts credit the increase in arrivals to improved international flight connectivity, targeted global marketing efforts, and strategic promotional campaigns in key regions.
“The surge in tourism reflects the success of our collaborative efforts to showcase Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and hospitality,” said an SLTDA spokesperson.
As the sector continues its upward trajectory, stakeholders are optimistic that 2025 could mark one of the best years for tourism since the pandemic-era downturn.
