Sri Lanka's tourism industry continues to show strong signs of recovery with 33,910 tourist arrivals recorded in the first week of May 2025, marking an 18.87% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).

This latest surge brings the total number of international visitors for the year to 930,794, underscoring growing global confidence in Sri Lanka as a safe and attractive travel destination in the post-pandemic era.

India remained the top contributor, sending 10,620 tourists during the first week of May a commanding 31.3% of the total arrivals. The United Kingdom followed with 2,676 visitors, accounting for 7.9% of the week's arrivals.

Tourism authorities expressed optimism over the rising figures, noting that ongoing promotional campaigns, improved infrastructure, and enhanced connectivity have significantly contributed to the uptick in international arrivals.

With the peak mid-year travel season approaching, industry stakeholders are hopeful that Sri Lanka will surpass the one million tourist milestone by mid-May, further cementing its comeback on the global tourism map.
