Sri Lankan delegation shines at WAVES 2025, strengthens global media ties

A high-profile delegation from Sri Lanka, comprising professionals from across the media and entertainment spectrum, made a significant mark at the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, held from May 1 to 4 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India.

On Day 2 of the Summit, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar chaired the 1st Global Media Dialogue with Ministerial participation from 25 countries. The WAVES Summit continued till May 4, 2025.

The summit, a flagship initiative envisioned by the Hon. Prime Minister of India, brought together a global constellation of industry leaders, policymakers, and creative minds to foster international collaboration in the fields of film, music, digital entertainment, animation, and gaming. WAVES 2025 was officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India on May 1.

A key highlight of the event was the Global Media Dialogue, which concluded with the adoption of the WAVES Declaration. This declaration emphasized the power of storytelling in bridging cultural divides, the importance of responsible use of technology, and the promotion of youth skill development and multilingual creativity through initiatives like India's Create in India challenges.

The Sri Lankan delegation actively engaged in dialogues, exhibitions, and networking sessions, exploring collaborative opportunities in co-productions, talent exchange, and technology-driven innovation. Delegates described the summit as a “transformative experience,” offering exposure to the latest global trends and opening doors to future partnerships.

WAVES 2025 stands as a milestone in regional and global cooperation, setting the stage for a more interconnected, inclusive, and innovative future for the media and entertainment industry.
