In a media briefing held on December 31 at the Government Information Department, Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa revealed plans to establish dedicated investigation units within various ministries. These units aim to enhance accountability and transparency within public institutions, ensuring that they remain answerable to the people.
Minister Jayatissa emphasized that numerous complaints related to irregularities, corruption, and fraud within the public service during previous administrations have been pouring in. These grievances have been directed to the Presidential Secretariat, the Prime Minister's Office, ministerial offices, and public representatives.
Highlighting the growing public demand for transparency, Dr. Jayatissa stated that these investigation units would serve as a critical mechanism for addressing these concerns, fostering greater public trust in the government. He also acknowledged the people's eagerness to report issues, assuring that steps would be taken to ensure that their voices are heard and acted upon promptly.
The initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring accountability in Sri Lanka's public sector, with further details expected as the program is rolled out.
