The Western Province Education Department has issued a circular prohibiting school teachers from conducting paid tuition classes for students from their own schools.

This ban applies during school hours, after school, on weekends, and public holidays.

The directive, signed by Western Province Secretary of Education K.A.D.R. Nishanthi Jayasinghe, has been sent to the Director of Education, Regional Directors, Divisional Directors of Education, and school principals across the province. The circular instructs that teachers be informed of the rule and warns of disciplinary action against violators.

This policy, initially enforced in the Sabaragamuwa Province and later in the Central Province, has now been extended to the Western Province to ensure fairness and prevent conflicts of interest in the education system.
