In a dramatic turn of events, a boat carrying more than 100 refugees from Myanmar has landed on the shores of the Mullivaikkal area in Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka.

The refugees were reportedly being transported illegally on a multi-day journey to another country when the vessel encountered a severe shortage of food and water in the open sea, forcing them to seek refuge on the Sri Lankan coast.

According to the Sri Lanka Navy and police officers stationed in Mullaitivu, the refugees are being provided with immediate assistance. The Navy has confirmed that food and water supplies have been delivered to the stranded individuals, and they are currently being cared for by security personnel.

Among the refugees are approximately 25 children, highlighting the dire nature of the situation. Authorities are working to assess the next steps in accordance with legal and humanitarian protocols.

The incident raises concerns about the rising number of refugees attempting perilous journeys in search of safety and better opportunities. Sri Lankan authorities have assured that a comprehensive plan will be developed to address the situation as further investigations continue.
