The Welfare Benefits Board has issued a notice urging beneficiaries who are eligible for relief under the Aswesuma program but do not have bank accounts to open one before December 27. The Board highlighted that nearly 6,000 individuals in the first phase of the relief distribution will not receive their benefits due to the absence of a bank account.
The Board acknowledged that some beneficiaries are unable to open bank accounts due to the lack of a national identity card. However, it clarified that individuals can now open bank accounts even without a National Identity Card. All Divisional Secretariats have been informed of the new procedures to assist those facing this issue.
Beneficiaries who do not have bank accounts are advised to obtain a letter from their respective Divisional Secretariats to facilitate the account opening process before the specified deadline.
