The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has summoned Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara to appear before its disciplinary committee, SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake announced.

Speaking to the media at the SLFP headquarters, Dissanayake stated that Jayasekara is facing charges of acting against the party’s decisions.

The SLFP, once a dominant political force in Sri Lanka, has faced internal turmoil since September 2023, when then-Chairman and former President Maithripala Sirisena removed Jayasekara from his position as General Secretary and expelled him from the party.

However, in July 2024, Jayasekara re-assumed the duties of General Secretary outside the SLFP headquarters, claiming legitimacy based on a Colombo District Court interim order preventing his removal from party membership and the post.
