The Assembly was officially opened by WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, with health ministers, diplomatic officials, and representatives from 194 member states participating in the event.

This year’s theme, “One World for Health,” highlights global cooperation in addressing major health challenges. A series of discussions, workshops, sessions, and lectures focusing on global health issues, pandemic preparedness, and universal health coverage are scheduled to take place during the Assembly.

Sri Lanka is being represented at the summit by Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, who also serves as the Chair of the WHO South-East Asia Regional Committee.

Addressing the 79th World Health Assembly today (19), Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa emphasized the importance of strengthening international collaboration to ensure equitable and resilient healthcare systems worldwide.

Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, along with a delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Health, is also participating in the Assembly.
