A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is currently mandatory for vehicle registration, vehicle licence renewals and opening bank accounts in Sri Lanka.
However, individuals who have not yet obtained a TIN number can submit their National Identity Card (NIC) along with the required information instead, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has stated.
The Minister clarified that providing the NIC and other essential details would be sufficient for those who have not yet obtained a TIN number.
