Heavy rainfall was reported across several parts of the island this afternoon (06), according to weather data.

The downpours caused flooding in Colombo and several suburban areas, disrupting traffic movement.

Police said heavy traffic congestion had been reported on several major roads in Colombo, including Galle Road from Kollupitiya, as well as roads in Borella, Maradana and Armour Street.

Several roads have been inundated due to the adverse weather conditions, affecting vehicle movement.

Meanwhile, Nawalapitiya town has also experienced flooding, with the Nawalapitiya Bus Stand and sections of the Nawalapitiya–Kandy main road, extending approximately one kilometre from the town centre, reportedly submerged.
