Three special flights operated by Poland-based airline Enter Air, carrying nearly 550 tourists from three major Polish cities, arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake this morning (06), marking the launch of its 2026/2027 winter tourism flight programme to Sri Lanka.
The flights were operated using three Boeing 737 aircraft belonging to Enter Air, one of Poland's leading airlines.
The first flight, ENT-7607, arrived from Katowice at 6.51 a.m., followed by flight ENT-1913 from Poznań at 7.40 a.m. The third flight, ENT-1561, arrived from Warsaw at 9.40 a.m.
A special welcome ceremony was organised at the airport to receive the arriving tourists, featuring traditional cultural performances showcasing Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage.
The flight programme is scheduled to operate from today until April 2, 2027, with flights bringing tourists from the three Polish cities to Sri Lanka every 10 days.
A total of 42 flights are planned during this period.
Sri Lanka has become a popular holiday destination among Polish tourists, attracted by its beaches, historical sites, wildlife parks, hill country landscapes and tea plantation experiences.
Destinations such as Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Yala remain among the popular attractions for international visitors.
The period from November to April, when winter conditions prevail across much of Europe, is a particularly important season for Sri Lanka's tourism industry. Special flight services such as these play a significant role in attracting European tourists during this period.
The increased tourist arrivals are expected to generate economic benefits for several sectors, including hotels, tour operators, transport services, restaurants and small-scale tourism businesses.
The programme is also expected to contribute to foreign exchange earnings and further promote Sri Lanka as an international tourist destination.
Winter charter flight services between Poland and Sri Lanka have been operating for nearly 15 years. The introduction of 42 flights for the 2026/2027 season is expected to further strengthen tourism ties between the two countries.
