The Disaster Management Unit has urged residents in areas surrounding Uma Oya to exercise extreme caution when travelling along the stretch from Daragala in Welimada to the Uma Oya Reservoir due to heavy rainfall in the river’s catchment areas.
Rainfall has been reported in the Uma Oya catchment areas during both daytime and nighttime, increasing the risk of sudden fluctuations in the water level, officials warned.
Accordingly, disaster management officials in Welimada have advised the public to remain vigilant and take extra precautions when using or travelling near Uma Oya.
