Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The arrest is reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation into the Siriliya Saviya account.

CIABOC officers had visited her residence in Mirihana and recorded a statement from her in connection with the investigation. She was subsequently arrested.

Meanwhile, Shiranthi Rajapaksa had earlier filed an anticipatory bail application seeking an order preventing her arrest. The court had ordered the Officer-in-Charge of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to appear before the court on October 12 to make submissions on the matter.

She had also been instructed to appear before the FCID on October 13.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa returned to Sri Lanka on Tuesday night after being overseas.
