The Colombo Public Library, Sri Lanka’s premier and largest public library, will mark its 101st anniversary with a three-day commemorative event series from October 3 to 5, 2026.

Established in 1925, the library has preserved an extensive collection of educational and literary resources for more than a century while continuing to serve the learning needs of local and international readers.

The library houses literature in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Its Lending Section contains nearly 150,000 books, while the Children’s Section has around 30,000 volumes. The Reference Section holds approximately 50,000 books, with a further 30,000 volumes in the Special Collections Section.

The library regularly conducts programmes to enhance teaching and learning strategies, encourage group activities and promote community development.
