Police have shot two suspects who were allegedly travelling to carry out a killing in the Maha Induruwa area of Kosgoda.
One of the suspects was injured in the shooting and admitted to hospital, while the other was taken into police custody, police said.
Police suspect that a gunman linked to the faction of underworld figure “Loku Patty” was preparing to shoot a member of the faction of “Karandeniya Sudda.”
The suspects allegedly attempted to flee after being intercepted by police, prompting officers to open fire, police said.
The incident occurred during an operation conducted by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit.
