The University of Peradeniya has once again secured the top position in Sri Lanka in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
According to the latest rankings, the university placed 200th globally among 2,016 universities from 110 countries, with a score of 8,262.5 points.
The ranking recognises the university’s continued efforts to maintain an environmentally friendly and sustainable campus, implement sustainable development initiatives and promote environmentally responsible practices.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings assess universities based on key sustainability indicators, including setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation, education, governance and digitalisation.
The 2026 rankings were conducted under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Campuses through Governance, Digitalization, and Integrated Performance.”
A total of 2,016 universities from 110 countries participated in this year’s rankings.
