Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who was produced before the court as a suspect in an ongoing investigation regarding the alleged misappropriation of approximately USD 2 million during the acquisition of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines—a case that has drawn widespread public controversy—was ordered to be remanded until September 23 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (16).
The Magistrate further announced that the court's decision regarding the suspect's bail application will be delivered on that same date.
Currently being held in custody, MP Namal Rajapaksa was brought to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court earlier today to attend the legal proceedings.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued this order after taking into consideration the submissions presented by Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)—which is conducting the investigation—as well as the arguments put forward by President's Counsel Anil Silva and other attorneys representing the defense.
