Two brothers, aged 11 and 17, were killed and their 55-year-old father was seriously injured after a hand grenade was thrown at their house on Sirisangabo Mawatha in Dehiwala early this morning (11), police said.
The victims were rushed to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital following the explosion, but both children succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
Their father, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, remains hospitalised for treatment.
The bodies of the two children have been placed at the Kalubowila hospital morgue.
Dehiwala Police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack and determine the motive behind it.
