Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and MP Namal Rajapaksa is reportedly preparing to formally request the necessary facilities to attend upcoming parliamentary sittings while being held on remand.
The request is expected to be made through SLPP General Secretary and Attorney-at-Law Kushani Rohanadeera, with the relevant letter scheduled to be submitted to the office of the Secretary-General of Parliament tomorrow.
Legal experts have pointed out that there are no legal impediments preventing an MP held on remand from attending parliamentary proceedings, provided the necessary arrangements are made.
Parliament is scheduled to meet from Tuesday (08) to September 11.
Namal Rajapaksa was recently produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Asanga S. Bodaragama in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged bribery transaction involving an Airbus aircraft deal.
The court subsequently ordered that he be further remanded until September 18.
