The Supreme Court has granted parties involved in petitions challenging the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution an opportunity to submit written submissions by 3.00 p.m. today (03).
The five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena directed the relevant parties to file their written arguments within the stipulated deadline.
The oral hearings on the petitions challenging the constitutionality of the proposed 22nd Amendment Bill concluded yesterday (02), following consideration of submissions by the petitioners, parties supporting the Bill and the Attorney General.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, the Supreme Court stated that its confidential determination on the constitutionality of the Bill would be communicated to the Speaker of Parliament.
A total of 67 petitions have been filed challenging the constitutionality of the proposed amendment, which was presented to Parliament by the Government on August 18.
