The closing ceremony of the historic Kandy Esala Perahera Festival will be held today (28) at the President’s House in Kandy under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Following the conclusion of the daytime procession, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, along with the Basnayake Nilames of the four main Devales and other regional Devales, will proceed in procession to the President’s House.
During the ceremony, the official Perahera Sandeshaya (message) will be formally presented to the President, confirming that this year’s Kandy Esala Perahera was successfully conducted in accordance with its ancient customs and traditions.
President Dissanayake is also scheduled to pose for a group photograph with government officials and Nilames who contributed to the successful conduct of the Perahera.
In addition, the President is expected to present cash awards and certificates to the artistes who represented the Sri Dalada Maligawa and the Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Pattini Devales and demonstrated outstanding performances during this year’s Kandy Esala Perahera.
The closing ceremony marks the conclusion of one of Sri Lanka’s most significant annual religious and cultural festivals, which draws thousands of devotees and visitors to Kandy.
