A ceremony was held on August 12, 2026, to commemorate the 21st death anniversary of former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar.
The ceremony was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism and the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS).
Religious observances were conducted under the guidance of the Maha Sangha, including Ven. Royal Pandit Kandy Amitha Gaveshi Thera of the Sri Sambodhi Viharaya in Colombo, with the participation of seven Buddhist monks.
Delivering the sermon, Ven. Kandy Amitha Gaveshi Thera recalled the late minister’s distinguished diplomatic career, his commitment to promoting national unity, and his dedicated service to Sri Lanka.
The ceremony was followed by the chanting of Pirith and blessings for the future activities of the institute.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath attended the ceremony, along with Sugandhi Kadirgamar, the wife of the late minister and a lifetime member of the LKIIRSS Board of Governors, and Acting Executive Director of LKIIRSS Tushara Rodrigo.
Members of the Board of Governors, senior officials of the Ministry, and staff members of the institute were also present at the commemorative event.
